He opens the door – the vehicle is running – and yells at the officer who is inside filling out paperwork to get out.

As the officer goes to exit the car to confront the suspect, the thief quickly gets into the driver's seat. The officer, realizing the gravity of the situation, decides to get back inside as a passenger instead. Remaining extremely alert, the officer waits for the suspect to accelerate before grabbing the wheel and turning the car directly into the closest building, which happened to be a church.

Another officer, witnessing the chaos, rushes out of the police station with his gun drawn and apprehends the suspect. According to the local NBC affiliate, both the suspect and the officer sustained minor injuries from the incident. As a result, the suspect faces serious charges, including larceny in the second degree, kidnapping in the second degree, assault of a public safety personnel, criminal trover in the second degree, and interfering with an officer.
