In a recent interview with the Spencer Graves Show, McCollum revealed that they have chosen the name Major Yancey McCollum. This name is particularly fitting as it reflects McCollum's Texan roots, being a nod to the Lone Star state where he hails from.

McCollum shared that the name came to him while watching highlights of old championship college football games. He was inspired by former Texas Longhorns quarterback Major Applewhite. "I saw Major Applewhite, and I was like, ‘Damn, Major McCollum would be sick,’” he explained. This anecdote showcases how personal experiences can influence significant life decisions, such as naming a child.

The name Yancey carries special significance, as it is also McCollum's middle name. From what McCollum shared in the interview, it appears that the idea of passing along this name to their child was primarily his wife's suggestion. "That’s what she wants. She likes Major Yancey,” he added, highlighting the collaborative nature of their parenting journey.
