Chris Janson fans know that he is over the moon for his wife, Kelly. Janson's wife is not just a supportive partner; she is also his manager and the keeper of all things Chris Janson. However, even with this close-knit relationship, there are times when Kelly is in the dark about his plans. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with the hitmaker of "All I Need Is You," and our conversation took a surprising turn when it led to a revelation about his friendship with Hank Williams Jr. and a secret that even Kelly isn't aware of.
During our conversation, I asked Janson about his friendship with Williams Jr. "Hank put me on my first Tennessee turkey, years ago," he explained. "Yeah, we have some great memories together—I got to tour with him for a few years." Their bond runs deep, which made me curious about a quirky detail I had learned from Hank in a previous interview: he owns a Civil War cannon. Naturally, I asked Chris if he had ever gotten the chance to shoot Hank's cannon.
Janson admitted he hasn't had that experience but has seen the cannon many times. Then, in a lighthearted shift, he revealed a secret that took me by surprise. "As a matter of fact, it's funny you should ask that, I have been looking for a cannon," he shared with a chuckle. "I'm not even joking, like if you look at my phone I can take you to the history—my wife doesn't even know, she's watching me from the other room and she doesn't know." With a hearty laugh, he added, "I'm gonna get a cannon, bro!"
At that moment, I glanced to my left, and to my surprise, I saw Kelly's head peek into the studio. She gave Janson the funniest look while he continued to explain his fascination with owning a cannon. "I just want one so when people come up to the house and are like, 'Is that a cannon?' I'm like, 'That is a cannon!'" It’s clear that Chris has a sense of humor about this, and he is also serious about adding this unique piece to his collection.
It's hard to imagine that Chris Janson wouldn't follow through on this whimsical dream of owning a cannon. After all, he already owns memorabilia from iconic artists like Minnie Pearl and Johnny Cash, alongside living on a farm previously owned by Tim McGraw and Hank Williams. He's even on the hunt for one of Waylon Jennings' cars! Janson is dedicated to his music career as he currently tours to promote his first album on BMLG, The Outlaw Side of Me, with his current single "All I Need Is You" climbing the country charts.
